Why would a wife and mistress go together to purchase a man's headstone? Why would that headstone, apart from a brief free style poem, say only 'missed by your friends' (ergo, presumably missed by neither wife nor bit of spare)?

I *lurve* burial monuments - it was my fave term of my archaeology course!
Excellent link - I shall enjoy coming back to that one (giving more time after having had dinner!). The de-capitation one was gross, but the guy's face looked incredibly serene considering.
