Poor Princess

This is the culmination of 48 hours of stress. It was worth it, and as it turns out the poor embarrassed teacher who had offered us a mob cap as the dregs of the dressing up cupboard had, rather sweetly, worried about whether Daughter, of all his class, would be the one without an outfit. When he asked her on Tuesday whether we had found anything, my good little girl did as we discussed and simply said, truthfully, "Yes thank you, a curtain and two pillowcases."

He was effusive in his praise, which was lovely and awkward, all at once.

There is much more to sewing that being able to picture a shape, and I failed to realise that the good curtain fabric which made the bustle/bum roll holding her skirt out would, after half an hour or so of wear, warm up and stretch. By the time she went into class her poor little mock backside was heading towards her knees.

Still, in honour of Mr Leigh, the kind teacher who had the headmaster in tow and was muttering things about the press having been invited, but still looked so genuinely pleased for daughter that she wasn't odd-one-out, here he is with the teaching assistants. It looks like its going to be a fun day!

I want to swear .... that's f*cking fantastic. I am gob smacked and impressed beyond belief. Oh yess a curtain and two pillowcases indeed! Looks like you've gone to some costumiers and hired something.

I am so pleased for you all and your daughter looks a princess.

I bow down in your honour. I give way to your impressive skills. Impressive.

I've just realised you can click on your photos and see them bigger and in more detail. You see I haven't finished commenting yet .... you did that all by making up the pattern? And did you use the Woolies sewing machine - it worked? Amazing.

Say wow! *forms orderly queue behind Doris to bow & scrape*
We are not worthy!
The sewing machine held up alright then?

The bottom hems came with the curtain & pillowcase as bought - thank heavens. The bodice is hemmed with wonderweb (God bless the inventor of that stuff) but yes, piping, sleeves,& cuffs went in using the woolies mini machine :-)

You did a wonderful job! She looks SO good in that lovely costume. I'm sure she will treasure it at least until she outgrows it! Pat yourself on the back.

oh my gaaaaaaaa, what Doris said, and, well, I haven't read the other comments yet, because I am absolutely freaking out, that gown is beautiful beyond words and impressive and as usual you sent me into peals of laughter with the bum roll description. and man her teacher is good looking, yes, he is....grrrr, handsome bag o' man candy that one. Bit wooly too.

Little daughter is an absolute doll, that complexion, those huge eyes, that smile, all shine.

I'm so darned tickled. xxx, Lo

That looks like it came from a prop costume house rather than a pillow case and curtains.....quite the talent you have there, because the costume looks really amazing.

WOW!

She looks absolutely darling, and what a lucky little girl to have a mother who can sew like that!

I've made medieval costumes since college--they're basic and easy. But Tudor takes real sewing skills that I just don't have.

I am awed and jealous. To heck with the kids--I want an outfit like that for ME!

damn Cheryl, that dress is beautiful. And you just stitched this thing together???? Never in all of my years could I even hope to sew that well. I bet your daughter was the best dressed princess by far.
