The Truth Will Out .....*ahem* you.

Thanks to Jo for a link to The Gender Genie, a viciously effective little piece of software that will sift your writing style into extreme gender types.

If you have any gender secrets then this could draw them out, although I hope no-one playing with it has any surprises of their own in store. Can you imagine being outed to yourself? Horrifying! (Or, as Catherine Tate put it,...)

As it claims to work better with texts over 500 words I pasted my last 2 blog entries together and let it have a look...
"Words: 553
(NOTE: The genie works best on texts of more than 500 words.)

Female Score: 961
Male Score: 804

The Gender Genie thinks the author of this passage is: female!"

...which I guess means I'm either "in touch with my feminine side" or "a bit of a girl". Which is correct is not really for me to say.

Yo be honest I think its a load of junk dependant on usage of the passive voice. I don't think those that come up female use submissive language, so much as deferential language, ie comes from a mind that expresses itself in words designed to give fair credence to other possibilities. An open mind.

It seems the 'masculine' words are all rather aggressive and blinkered.

But thats my feminine point of view.

I never would've thunk myself a girl, but I guess I am, or it guesses I am, so I must be.

lol, I tried several of my blog entries and it guessed I was female every time. Makes me want to try to write something "male" dag nab it.

It may be junk...though the algorithm it's based on is ostensibly 72%-80% accurate.

I have found it quite curious that pieces of writing I have put through it when I was feeling my gender dysphoria very acutely - in emotional turmoil - strongly tended to come out as 'female' (irrespective of what I was writing about). Whilst a few weeks later, once the intensity of the crisis had subsided a bit, they were more likely to show up as 'male'. Of course, at the time I had no consciousness of writing in one particular style or another (I'm still not, I just write as it comes).

I don't know if there's any significance in any of this but I did find it thought provoking.

LOL
Maybe it differentiates by uncertainty.

I tried this thing last year, and it was CERTAIN that I was male!

Well that was handy, now you can be sure you're a woman. I however appear to have undergone a gender transformation. I doubt Chicken Man will think much of that.
Who dreams up this stuff anyway - don't they have better things to do? Like saving themselves from themselves.

It pegged me as a chick every single time.

I had no idea I was so frappin obvious.

I thought I wrote gender less, then again, all of those references I make to myself as being an old gal and stuff, now that could have given me away...

Still it was kind of cool.

Steg is all male, Becky is all woman, yet the software disagrees.

I would love to say we prove someone's observations to have a societal bias, but the question is, whose?

This is a shortened, simplified version of the original test.

Fun though, and seemingly controversial!

"Steg is all male" - why thank you! If you ever want an (unpaid) job as a publicity agent....

Hey, on my longer-than-500 words blog entries, I'm a male!

From "Cleverer than me"
Female Score: 774
Male Score: 900

The Gender Genie thinks the author of this passage is: male!

From "Cheat!"
Female Score: 820
Male Score: 825

The Gender Genie thinks the author of this passage is: male!

But on my shorter ones, I'm a female.

I've only tried four (two of each) but that seems to be the pattern. I know it says it's more reliable on longer passages, but it looks to me like when I get terse and snappy I'm a female, and when I get all long-winded and preachy I'm male.

Makes sense to me!

I always knew that the girlie frills were not for me, but in written form? My male score must be a subconcious after effect of my general tomboy-ishness.....or the whole thing is a pile of fancy blinking nonesense, that takes a random guess and calls it an algorithem :D
