Flaming Pop Ups

My sincere apologies to anyone who looked at my blog and found a pop-up. I have a reasonable blocker on my own machine, and didn't know it was going on. It took a good friend to tell me.

These spam ads do seem to attach to blogger sites far too regularly and are a royal pain in the butt.

I THINK it was one called imrworldwide.com, owned by an 'advertising solutions' company called Redsherrif.com.

They in turn are now part of nielsen-netratings, who I had thought were kosher.

Whatever, it wasnt me, it was some total jerk somewhere, grrrrrr.

Let me know if it happens again, please, because then I shall have to complain against them.

Just to tug on your heart strings the latest pop-up is advertising World Wildlife Fund. So yes, you are still getting pop-ups!

It is the equivalent to putting a sign up in someone else's front garden. Surprised the WWF would stoop so low ...

Well now it HAS to be coming from the server that hosts my blog, ie Blogger.com has the problem, I am just the muggins that loses the readers.... I guess.

Still going grrrrrr

I don't think it has to be the server but doesn't discount it.

I think it is likely to be connected to a bit of javascript for something on your page. For a third party service. They then sell advertising space (ie to WWF) and then when your page loads up and loads up the javascript it triggers the pop-up from somewhere else entirely - ie not your server.

I've tried fishing around the code for any identifier to say it is connected to this or that on your blog but can't quite find the trigger.

I turned off my pop-up blocker for your site a while ago in order to investigate this but got nowhere and now can't stop the pop-ups and get them every day. Once a day although I will visit you several times.

You can try removing the code for each of your javascripts one at a time for about 36 hours each and see if there is a difference and reinstate if not. This only works as long as you can see the pop-ups!

I didn't get a pop up right now, but I did last time I visited your blog. And I meant to tell you about it & can't remember why I didnt. I most likely got distacted & forgot.
Anyways, I'm glad you found out about it & got rid of it. If I ever see one again, I will tell you immediately.

Cheryl I noticed with my own blog that when I put the comments in a separate window that a pop up entered my portal too.

I think I am going to go back in a put the comments on a separate page again.
